Direct reference (dref)

The DocsMatter theme allows for unique page identifiers in combination with the unique URL for a page. The unique page identifier is called DREF or Direct Reference and works just like an URL.

The DREF link can be used to link to content on a site using DocsMatter to make sure that the correct page is always found, even if your permalink structure would change, or if you at some point move away from WordPress 😨 and perhaps choose another platform for your documentation content.

You don’t need to manually create this DREF information, it will be generated automatically when you save a page.

 

DREF is very similar to WordPress unique post ID, with the difference that you get an URL that looks like:
